Ethically leaning in: Imperfect allyship in psychology and social advocacy work
01 Nov 2021
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
What is allyship? What are the characteristics, behaviours and practices that align with allyship? Are there times you observed an oppressive act and wish you spoke up?
Join us in exploring how to ethically navigate imperfect allyship. We will review the article “Leaning In” as Imperfect Allies in Community Work (Reynolds, 2013). The article offers a story of imperfect allyship, highlights strategies for allies, limitations of allyship, and suggests how to repair missteps allies are likely to encounter. We hope that through group discussion you may build confidence to ethically lean in as an imperfect ally in the spirit of social justice.
