Disaster Resource Network

The Disaster Resource Network is a committee of the BC Psychological Association; it is headed by Dr. Jeanne LeBlanc. BCPA is a member of APA’s Disaster Response Network but, while most DRN members in the United States participate through affiliations with their local Red Cross branch, BCPA’s DRN volunteers serve primarily through Disaster Psychosocial Services (DPS), and therefore under BC’s Ministry of Health.

DRN volunteers assist Disaster Psychosocial Services in a variety of capacities throughout the Province of British Columbia. The DRN were also privileged to be asked to be part of the community-based disaster response team for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games through the Provincial Disaster Psychosocial Services. DRN volunteers travelled all the way from Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley to participate in this initiative. DRN members have also been active in Doctors Without Borders and with other volunteer organizations.
