I am a registrant with the College of Psychologists of BC. I work with adults and teens on a range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, life transitions and other stressors.
I like to individualize each client’s treatment based on their unique concerns and goals, and I draw from evidence based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. My therapeutic style is warm, empathic, and collaborative, as I understands the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany any decision to seek help. I strive to create a safe space for my clients, help them feel understood and accepted, and support them to explore how they can reach the goals that make their lives more fulfilling.
I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Victoria. I have over 10 years of clinical experiences acquired across diverse mental health settings - inpatient, outpatient hospital, community mental health, forensics, and private practice. Coming from a diverse cultural background, I have a particular interest in helping individuals with navigating and integrating different aspects of identities, such as ethnicity, faith, gender and sexual orientation.
I offer services in both English and Mandarin.
I currently have a small virtual private practice. If you are interested in working with me and/or would like more information, please contact me directly at: info@drsheenamiao.com or check out my website: https://www.drsheenamiao.com/
